Dear Diary, I Want To Work At Home

April 13, 2009 – 10:15 pm

How many moms head off to work every day with a pang of longing for something different?

Every Monday morning I host a free Breakthrough Session with other work at home moms and moms who want tow work at home.  This morning one of our regulars admitted that she was literally in tears about her desire to be at home with her child.  It was very moving.

I wish I could wave a magic wand and make doors open for every mom who wants to be a WAHM.  If I could do it, I would!

I’ve been fortunate.  I didn’t have to leave Sean with anyone else when he was young.  I ran a home daycare until he was eight years old.  Then, when I decided to go to work at my church - he was always with good friends in environments he enjoyed.. and since I’ve been able to work at home full time again, we’ve been able to grow closer through his teen years.

There was one brief period of six months, right after I moved up north, that I had to send him to daycare - and I hated it!  It was so awful to see the look on his face when I left him.  He was five years old and he couldn’t understand why it had to be that way.

I’m grateful that his daycare years were brief but a part of me is a little glad in retrospect that I got to experience it.  It gives me a sense of appreciation for what other moms are going through every day.

If you’re writing ‘Dear Diary’ entries about your wannabe a wahm angst - just know that I feel you - and you’re not alone.

  2. I too have been blessed with the gift to work at home, and be able to pay my bills (even as a single mother). My advice to any mom who wishes to work from home is to keep searching and applying for jobs. Hopefully one will pop up eventually!

  4. Kelli, Try Alpine Access! They are a legit company and there’s a whole message board about them on this website. Email me if you have any questions. I haven’t started yet, but I’m done with my interviews and have almost been hired. I have to go through the background check still. I’d love to explain it more to you. It’s not a scam, not a pyramid scheme, etc. You just work from your home answering incoming customer service calls.

  6. Teresa,
I totally feel ya and understand completely! It is horrible knowing that you get up and leave your kids to go to a job that at times isn’t the most desirable. It is difficult no matter what your field. I looked for awhile because I wanted something that I could work on my own schedule and make money which was a direct correlation of the amount of work I put into it. We should definitely talk! I am still at home and couldn’t be happier with my current situation with job success. Email me if you would like to talk further! Talk soon.

  8. Hi Teresa,
There are so many at home business most of them are network marketing. What I do is like customer service, the customers come from TV ads and I service them when I get them. Easy, 10 minutes a day with e-mails Not Phone. No selling ( I hated that also ) and definitely no parties.
You can e-mail me if you like for further info.

  9. Hi!
I was just wanting to earn extra money to help put my child thru college and help my husband pay bills. Is there anything out there with data entry out there that is legit, that you don’t have to pay to go to work? Please help.

  10. Gina-
I saw your note to Teresa about your working at home. I have been looking for a long time. I use to do daycare(for 16 years) and now that we have moved south into an apartment that isn’t feasable. I like working on the computer and also would like to make my own hours if possible. If you have any ideas, let me know. Thanks

  11. Nicole, or anyone who knows about Alpine Access: do you have to pay them a monthly fee? Did you have to sign a contract?

By Lori on May 5, 2009

  12. I have done research on Alpine Access through ripoffreport.com, and it has a good reputation from all of the articles and posting on the web about the company. You will have to pay for a background check (currently $45) and they do a credit check (no more than 4 negatives)I have yet to apply but will do so soon;)

  14. It is so very fortunate that the amount of work at home mothers has increased over the past few years. I, too, could not stand the idea of my son at a daycare, or being a latch-key child. I cried every day when I had to leave him with someone I barely knew.

I am glad to be a WAHM, and I deeply want to help all mothers achieve this dream as well.

Just remember: working at home is harder than driving to a brick and mortar. I say this because the expectations are so much higher of you to achieve and accomplish. As long as you go in with the love of your family, you can accomplish anything.

  18. Its becoming easier and a lot more popular to work from home than its ever been before. Overnight success stories are possible but are rare so patience is the key and as long as you keep putting in the work the money will come. Its also important to remember that what works for one may result differently for another so just find your niche even if it involves a little trial and error.
