Getting on the First Page of Google

May 18, 2009 – 10:12 am

Recently in our Business Advice and Business Topics forum a member asked how to show up on the first page of Google search results for the keywords she’s using on her website.  Many members offered great advice, including Angienewton who suggested adding more content to the site and researching keyword phrases to find the best keywords to use.  Another member, Giftys, suggested opting for keywords that aren’t so competitive, and Lewgard offered one of the most important techniques to use when trying to improve search engine rank, getting backlinks.  Lewgard says:

“To get some link love, here are a few ideas:  Be sure to create a working link to your site in your forum signatures.  Create some articles via Squidoo and Hubpages and include a link to your site within the articles.  When you create a link to your site, try your best to have your key phrase as the anchor text (instead of the link being something like “visit mysite.com” (with mysite.com being your actual domain name) have it read “visit  key phrase for my site.com” (with “key phrase for my site” being the actual key phrases but the hyperlink is that of your domain).”

It can sometimes be hard to get on the first page of Google, but quality content, the right keywords, and relevant back links makes getting there a whole lot easier.

Do you have some tips to share on how to get on the first page of Google?  Leave a comment and share them with us!
