Time Saving Tips for Work-at-Home Moms
May 27, 2009 – 10:43 amEver wish there were more hours in the day? From working to taking care of the kids and household duties, it seems like there’s never enough time during the day to get everything done. Here are a few time-saving tips for the work-at-home mom.
Make a To-Do List
Every morning before you get the kids up for school, take a few minutes to write down what you want to accomplish during the day. It can be one thing or many depending on the amount of time you have, but I have found this helps me stay on track and actually feel like I’ve accomplished something as I check off every item on my to-do list.
Use a Crockpot
My Crockpot is a life saver! It not only saves me time, but also saves me from spending an hour (or longer) in the kitchen every evening preparing dinner. Throw something in after you get the kids off to school and go about your day while dinner is cooking.
Shop Online
Since I am from a rural area, the nearest store is miles and miles away. To take a “short trip” to the grocery is at least a 1.5-hour trip. To save travel time, I do a lot of shopping online for non-perishable items.
Don’t Be Super Mom
Contrary to popular belief, moms are not superwomen. If you can’t get all of the tasks on your list done in one day, don’t be too hard on yourself. Everything will still be there tomorrow.

And life became less stressful when I accepted your last point.

I use a lot of these tips (what woman doesn’t love shopping online? Yay Internet!).
My own tip: stop feeling like you have to entertain your children all day. Today’s kids are coddled into believing their own company isn’t good enough. I spend time with my kids but I don’t believe my primary role is to keep them stimulated according to textbook prescriptions for a perfect brain
Kids will play and learn all on their own if you provide a loving, safe environment with a few good toys (cardboard boxes and crayons work).
Cheers!

1. Cluster your errands by day, location or both.
2. Delegate, Delegate, Delegate! I am not an octopus!
3. Double your recipes.
4. Plan your meals at least weekly. You don’t have to make it complicated, just have some idea of what to have on the dinner table by sundown. lol
5. Tidy up throughout the day. 5-10 minutes here and there will make a huge difference. Try a morning, afternoon, and evening tidy up.

Totally Agree with the Crock Pot! I have 2 active boys and they are going in many directions when school is out. We all seem to enjoy the crock pot meals especially when the temperature starts to cool off. Thanks for the wonderful tips!

I am a big fan of the crock pot. I also try to put an evening aside to plan meals, make a list of supplies, go out for the groceries or order on-line (if you have a grocery service that delivers - such a huge time saver.)
