Too Tired to Write: Why I Am Not a Fan of Spring Forward
March 17, 2010 – 4:18 pmSpring is upon us. In fact, Saturday, March 20th is the official beginning. While I’m not a spring hater, I am a “spring forward” hater. I’ll admit it–I’ve never been a fan of losing an entire hour of sleep.
Sure you get used to it, as my husband groans when I tell him I can’t go on and must take to the bed promptly by 9 p.m. However, why go through this exercise year after year? OK, I know there are good reasons for it. Something about saving energy or crops, but for one or even two weeks every year I am a zombie, tripping over my own feet, smashing into doors and mixing salt into a recipe that calls for sugar.
Spring forward affects everyone, and especially affects our “get out of bed and to school on time” schedule. This week was one where we made it by the skin of our teeth. I notice the crabbiness is a little heavier after school, fuses are shorter and even the dog is whinier (which I never thought could happen).
The only one who seems to be taking this in stride is my “morning person” husband. Morning people typically go through spring forward like nothing happened as opposed to us night owl vampires. It seems as though he takes personal joy in seeing us drag our weary bodies from bed while he whistles a happy tune. I know he whistles that tune to push me over the edge, too.
Anyway, it’s here, so get used to it, right? On the upside my pals up north are starting to thaw out a bit and can see a few blades of grass. This is the only time of year when the weather in Florida is in harmony with the weather up north. Nice down here, nice up there. Of course in a few months it will turn so hot it would make the devil uncomfortable, but I’ll save that moan for another blog. Off to bed!

I’m a morning person, and I find “spring forward” much more difficult than “fall back.” The older I get, the longer it takes me to recover! I still bounce out of bed in the morning, but my sleep cycle is disrupted for about a week.

when I was younger I was very fund of sleeping. A Phrase from my father took me out of this obsession. he said “you will die because of sleeping”. although he did not meant to said it wrong but it change me though. and so until now as I sleep I keep a sense of watching myself not fearing for what my father said but considering the fact that it will add a safety for yourself.
